good

well, I understand it can't be perfect since a person needs to be extremely knowledgeable when doing frame-by-frame with character stances and camera angles simliar to what you were using. But it's certainly a very good attempt in my opinion

interesting...

Was this frame by frame animation? Just curious since I do this as well and it has that inconsistency which makes the character seem shaky. Not saying it's bad because I like it, just wondering is all.

anyways, loved the concept. The animation was good. I think the music really set the tone for the piece more than anything though since if you play it without sound it loses it's appeal. But, then that means you did a good job of using sound and animation together to make your work better doesn't it?

...good job :)

Butzbo responds:

Yes, almost every frame (at least in the 'characters') was always being 'redrawn' ,. heh, thanks to onion skin!
Thanks! :)

ok...

Not a bad story, but I would expect more from a senior majoring in animation though...

Here's what I think the problem was, you don't have to listen if you don't want to but I think they could make your work and future work even better.

The transitions need some work as sometimes the first couple seconds of each scene has nothing going on which makes the animation seem a little unfinished and scripted.

The smooth transition would be the sequence near the beginning with the teacher spider as he points out the lesson.

a not so good example would be when the teacher points to the picture of the dead fly and the student spider has a delayed and then over the top reaction. If the timing is tweaked a little bit, the fly's reaction won't seem super cheesy.

Also, the sounds used seemed pretty generic. maybe create your own sounds to the animation to make it sound better as it sounds like you spent a lot of time making the animation but then threw in sounds you got off an old cartoon soundboard. There were a bunch of parts where I felt you were just reusing soundbites. You could either use a microphone to record each sound using your voice only or even simulate certain sounds like Tom and Jerry.

All in all it was a good animation but really go over it again if you want it to be better. Also, I'm sure you do this since you're an animator but when whenever you watch an animation pay extra attention to everything. Not just the way the character behaves and acts but the way the scene is set up, character placement on stage and on screen, and transitions. There are a ton of animators out there and if they work hard enough, they can make a character look good and move smoothly. The difference is in the way they set up and tell the story.

Check out Adam Phillips. His work would be a good example as he worked for Disney which means he did something right and it's also why his work is some of the highest rated in Newgrounds. It's not just the good looks of the character or the background. Many people comment about how good his stuff looks. But there's more elements in his work that make his story telling a lot more effective than others.

I'm not sure what you're expecting out of a senior from college. But in any case, I appreciate your input! I was going for an older cartoon style hence why I used so many old sound effects, but I admit that I couldn't find as many as I wanted to use given the amount of time. And I've watched quite a few of the top Newgrounds artist, including Adam, for inspiration. Because they're stuff is in the top for a reason...it kicks major butt! I wish I knew all the secrets that Adam knows, but only time will teach me that.

meh....

To be honest this was a bit of a let down. No offense to all the guest animators involved in this final piece but the series' unique style was somewhat lost. Half of the time I was too focused on the change in animation style I couldn't even pay attention to anything else.

sry but it would have been better to have the characters look like they used to.

EdibleCastle responds:

oh no no. in your opinion it would have been better.

the whole fun idea of this special episode was to see how other animators would twist the edible castle world into their own styles.

not bad

Wish I could understand Russian.

Also, I've seen some posts and I'm sure a lot of people including me would like to know how long this took you to make.

I personally would like to know what you used to make this. I know you said you just drew each part out on paper and I've done that too. But how did you get this on flash? Cuz all I can do is take the pictures but I can't figure out how to put it online like this.

Scarydoll responds:

We scanned or shot each frame and imported them into Flash one by one. It took a while because all animators did it just for fun without any deadline or anything.

awesome

funny pedophile part at the end... erectie dickie lmao

what was the name of that song at the end btw?

RSQViper responds:

The name was actually IN the credits...

It was "Clumsy" by Fergie. She's hot. I would SO Offsy Robsey her ass.

nice idea

great idea.

very original. try making an animation like that but longer and I'm sure you'll get some credit.

as it would have it, I actually had 3d glasses near me cuz I just came from Disneyworld and I had jacked one of their 3d goggles :)

FlamingCow responds:

thanks
